The Urban League of Greater Hartford is located in the Capitol City of the State of Connecticut. The Hartford affiliate serves a population of 857,183, of which 99,936 or 12 percent are Black. Greater Hartford, comprised of the City of Hartford and surrounding communities, with a population in excess of 800,000, is a nationally recognized financial and industrial center, which accounts for many of the State's industrial firms and most of its manufacturing employees. Hartford is located in the center of the State, within an hour's commute from the shores of Long Island Sound, and the Berkshire Mountains, and within two hours by highway or train to Boston or New York City. Hartford boasts fifteen degree-bearing colleges within the Greater Hartford area, with cultural features including the oldest public art museum in America, the Hartford Symphony, the Hartford State Company, the Hartford Ballet, and the only producing grand opera in Connecticut. There is a 15,000 seat coliseum in the center of Hartford where the Hartford Whalers, a member of the National Hockey League, make their home.

Successful applicants for the position of President/CEO must hold a bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) in business administration, social work, public administration or an appropriate discipline, with a proven track record of leadership and management in community-based organizations with at least five years of senior non-profit or for-profit management experience. This should include experience in the development and implementation of social service programs, program evaluation, advocacy, public education, fiscal management, strategic planning, resource development, board and volunteer relations, community mobilization and collaboration, and personnel management. Additional qualifications include excellent organizational and communications skills, grant/proposal writing experience, and government/community relations’ experience. These are minimum requirements for the position of president/ceo. Prior experience within the Urban League Movement is desirable.
